Mel Newbery

Mel joins Team Run Eugene from London, England, and is very excited about it!  She ran for Princeton University for 4 years, where she was introduced to and fell in love with the steeplechase, and that was the first of many falls to follow.  After an injury, she was granted a fifth year of eligibility, which she used at the U of O, bringing her from New Jersey to Eugene. Now that she has become a part of such a wonderful and exciting running community, there is no going back.
Competing in everything from the 1500m to the 10000m in college, Mel is willing to try everything, and ran her first half marathon this fall.  She is excited to race both on the roads and on the track, focusing on the steeple, as a member of Team Run Eugene.  Working as an elementary school teacher, Mel really wants to get local children involved in track and field, and makes sure to incorporate running into her lessons, P.E. or otherwise.
