WHO: Anyone and everyone who likes to run or walk!
I’m sure by now you’ve heard of TrackTown USA’s “TrackTown Fitness” on Sunday mornings. We LOVE this community event, and several TRE athletes show up each week to help lead drills, run/walk with participants, or just watch and cheer people on. TRE Coach Ian Dobson is also one of the lead coaches for TrackTown Fitness, along with Vin Lananna, and it is free and open to people of any age or fitness level.
While we had the USATF Indoor Champs in March, we also had several athletes open up their outdoor seasons on the track! The first outdoor meet of the year always has that extra feeling of excitement, because it means spring season has officially started. In addition to the track, we also saw a stellar race from Eric Finan at the Gate River Run 15k in Jacksonville, Florida, marking a great return to the roads for him, as well as a gutsy race from Soh Rui Yong at the World Half Marathon Championships in Cardiff. We’ll recap all of that below!
March was a mix of indoor track, road racing, and outdoor track for us. With the USATF Indoor Championships closing out the indoor season, spring is just around the corner! We had three athletes race at the USA meet in Portland: Stephan Bullard (800m), Geena Gall (800m), and Megan Patrignelli (3000m), which we will recap below. We’ve also had a few athletes already compete in their first outdoor meet, as well as a strong race on the road from Eric Finan at the Gate River Run USA 15k Championships, so don’t forget to check out the recap of those races as well!
TRE made the trip to Seattle to race at the Dempsey, and ended up with some great results! The Dempsey track is closer to 300m in distance rather than the standard 200m indoor track size (which is a nice change!), and provides a lot of competitive racing opportunities. A group of the women traveled up to the Husky Classic together in mid-February, and then three of us raced at the SPU Final Qualifier meet at the end of February.
The indoor track season proved to be a great tune-up for many TRE athletes. With the Trials this summer, the indoor season is a perfect time to “bust the rust” and get used to racing again, especially after months of Fall training. However, just because we were “busting rust” doesn’t mean we didn’t run fast! TRE had a lot of really exciting performances this indoor season, culminating with the USATF Indoor Championships in March. Here is a recap of how things went down in February at the House of Track:
Welcome to our team blog! As members of Team Run Eugene – Elite, we all share the goal of running fast and being competitive every time we toe the line. And with this being 2016, many of us are focused on the “Road to Rio” this year, and having a strong presence at the Olympic Trials this summer. Of course, training is a journey, and every big goal is made up of many smaller goals, so there will be plenty of exciting things happening between now and then as well!
